Habitat for Humanity of Smith County

We Transform Lives

Habitat For Humanity
What are specifications of a typical home?
A Habitat home is simple, well-built and energy efficient, our homes are typically 3 or 4 bedroom 2 bath single story wood frame homes. Depending on the family's desire and lot width, a single car garage could be added. The homes range from 1200 to 1400 sq ft.

Are Habitat Homes Free?

No. Habitat is a "hands up" and not a "hand out." Each homeowner must be willing to devote sweat equity hours to building their home, their neighbor's home or to other Habitat projects. Habitat homes are sold at no profit, with a 30-year zero interest loan from Habitat.

Women Build - What Is It?
Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women to have fun and make a difference building homes and communities. The Women Build program seeks to bring in new resources to further the home-building mission of Habitat for Humanity. Women Build provides opportunities for women to learn on Habitat job sites.

How Does Smith County Habitat Build Homes?

Through volunteer work and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, we build simple, decent homes with the help of the Partner (homeowner) Families. Smith County Habitat houses are sold to Partner Families at no profit, financed with affordable, 0% interest loans. The homeowner's monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Smith County Habitat that is used to build more homes in the community.
