Habitat for Humanity Smith County is extremely pleased to announce our new partnership with the University of Texas at Tyler
. UT Tyler has generously integrated a Habitat Annual Build project
into the curriculum of the Construction Management Program.
As
part of the course requirements, every year the students will build one
Habitat house in Smith County for a family in need. Their goals will be
to market the project, raise the funds, coordinate the volunteers, and
manage the construction.
With construction beginning on
September 25, the students expect to complete the project in November
before the end of the semester. As part of the required “sweat equity”
hours, the new homeowners will help build their new home and anticipate
closing shortly after completion.
Habitat is appreciative of Carrier
who will graciously co-sponsor the inaugural build. The current cost to
build one Habitat house depending on the lot location and floor plan
layout is between $50,000 - $60,000.
Habitat invites the public
to the Inaugural UT Tyler Build Kick-off Event. Please join us to
celebrate and to build on Saturday, September 25, 2008 from 8:00 am
until 2:00 pm at the site on North Angeline Avenue off of Duncan
Street. There are also three neighboring sites in various stages of
construction and all need volunteers. No experience is necessary. Food
and fun will be provided. For more information, contact Rand Huzenlaub
at 903-595-6630 x10.
