April 6, 2009
The Second Annual Habitat for Humanity UT Tyler Build begins this
month.
Last year, UT Tyler successfully integrated a Habitat Annual
Build project into the curriculum of the Construction Management
Program. The 2009 Pre-Build begins this April and will be erected in
September.
As part of the course requirements, every year the students will build
one Habitat house in Smith County for a family in need. Their goals
will be to market the project, raise the funds, coordinate the
volunteers, and manage the construction.
This year, the pre-building of
the walls will be done on the campus of UT Tyler, rather than the
Habitat construction shop.
Building on campus will expose the
university population to the project and help the students with their
fund-raising efforts.
Once the walls are completed they will be taken
to the job site on a trailer. At the site, the students will then raise
the walls and finish building the house side by side with the new
homeowner, over several weeks.
A Pre-Build Completion Ceremony is scheduled for Friday April 17 at
noon on campus. All students and the public are invited to attend.

Habitat expresses our thanks and gratitude to Carrier who will
co-sponsor the build.
The current cost to build one Habitat house in
Smith County depending on the lot location and floor plan layout is
between $60,000 - $70,000. To support the UT Tyler Build, please visit
